Experience one of Hill-Stead's signature events, featuring over 50 exhibitors of antiques and quality crafts for home and garden. Shop for perennials and woodland plants, enjoy garden and cooking demonstrations with local experts, consult with horticulturalists and Master Gardeners, join an estate walk and take a tour of the museum. With all that activity, be sure to stop for lunch at the Cupcake Café!

Admission: $8 for members and advance sale tickets (must be purchased by May 1); $10 members-to-be at the door; children under 12 free. Become a new member at the event and receive free admission! Admission includes Saturday afternoon's demonstration by Steve Silk; all garden & cooking demonstrations with local experts; live music; children's activities and a tour of the 1901 Pope Riddle house boasting Impressionist masterpieces. Members receive a 20% discount in the museum shop.

May Market Specials 2009

Mar Jennings Friday, 10:30 am:
Lifestyle expert and best-selling author of Life on Mar's: A Four Season Garden, Mar Jennings will bring "Untold Gardening Secrets to Hill-Stead," sharing his ideas for creating a fabulous, stress-free garden for all seasons and all budgets. $30 includes May Market admission. Copies of Mar's book will be on hand for purchase and signing.

Friday, 1:30 pm: Mar Jennings on "The Magic of Small, Intimate Bouquets." In this hands-on workshop, limited to 30, participants will receive personal, step-by-step instructions from Mar Jennings on how to create elegant, small arrangements. From how to select the proper vessel, to creating color and texture combinations, to the right placement in the room, no question will go unanswered. $150 includes materials, a goody bag (with items selected by Mar), a personally autographed copy of Life on Mar's: A Four Season Garden, and your three Mar-inspired creations. Reservations required.

Saturday, 11 am: Award-winning garden writer, photographer and designer Steve Silk demonstrates "How to Plant a Pot — Thrillers, Fillers & Spillers." Eye-catching containers need a mix of plants with different design characteristics. Steve Silk will show how this is done, and will discuss design elements such as texture, shape and color. Free with May Market admission.

Saturday, 11 am—2 pm: Strolling fiddler Benjamin Dean will delight browsers
Saturday, 11:30 am—1 pm: A special performance by talented high school a cappella girls' singing group Oriana Singers
Saturday, 11:30 am—1 pm: Zoodle Facepainting for the young and young-at-heart.
Saturday, 1:30—3:30 pm: Your young one can plant and decorate their very own pot, bring it home and watch it grow!

The Cupcake Café offers gourmet salads and sandwiches provided by Metro Catering; delicious soups from Highland Park Market; rich coffee provided by Starbucks, and homemade goodies.

Estate walks, house tours and children's activities round out the festivities.
