Inner-City Outreach

Hill-Stead Museum’s Inner-city Outreach provides poetry enrichment opportunities to high school students at A. I. Prince Technical High School and Greater Hartford Classical Magnet School, Hartford, CT. In 2007, Hill-Stead added the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts to the program, and expanded activities to include arts-and-writing days at the museum.

Program activities
A multi-cultural team of visiting poets presents absorbable literary models, including their own work, work by other poets and newspaper articles. Students participate in individual and group writing activities, read, perform and discuss. They are encouraged to extend their activities beyond the workshops— join poetry clubs, publish their own literary magazines and participate in field trips.
