Hartford Student Poetry Outreach

Hill-Stead
Museum’s Inner-city
Outreach provides poetry enrichment opportunities
to high school students at A. I. Prince Technical
High School and Greater Hartford Classical Magnet School, Hartford, CT.
Program activities
A multi-cultural team of poets delivers 18–20 reading, writing and performance workshops throughout the school year. By exposing students to varying viewpoints and ideas and validating their own vocabularies of expression, the program fosters literacy and creativity while building confidence and self-esteem in participants. Each spring, students take a field trip to the museum where they write poetry based on and influenced by the visual arts and nature at Hill-Stead. Participating students are invited to submit their work to the Fresh Voice Competition and to attend the summer performances.
Funding for Hartford Student Poetry Outreach provided in part by the Aetna Foundation, The Fund for Greater Hartford, the Ensworth Foundation, and the Ellen Jeanne Goldfarb Memorial Charitable Trust.
