Fresh Voices Competition


Since 1993, student poets from all corners of Connecticut have entered this prestigious competition-and-mentoring program. If you are a high school-age poet, take a chance on yourself and submit. Ask a teacher, mentor or experienced poet to help you select your best work.

Who may enter: Any Connecticut high school-age student who has not won this competition previously.
Entry deadline: Postmarked or emailed no later than March 1, 2012.
To Enter: • Complete the 2012 entry form
• Submit no more than five pages of original poems with a maximum of two poems per page. Include your name at the top of each page.
• Mail your form and poems to:

Winners:
• Finalists
are announced by April 9, 2012
• Finalists are invited to read before select judges at Hill-Stead Museum on Saturday, April 14, 2012
• Four to six winning
poets are announced by April 20, 2012
• Winners will be asked to email their poems in Microsoft Word format to poetry@hillstead.org.
• Winners will be photographed in a group for chapbook, program book and other promotional material.
• Winning poets will read at the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival on June 2, 2012 (all winners must be available to read on this date)
Awards & Opportunities
• Reading at Hill-Stead's renowned Sunken Garden Poetry Festival’s Young Writer's Day on June 2, 2012
• Performance workshop on May 5 at Hill-Stead, where professional poets will mentor students on their reading
• Poems published in a special edition chapbook; winners receive five copies each
• DVD recording of Young Writer's Day.
