Art, Naturally

young art student framing a nature sceneDiscover this place where art and nature meet! Inside the museum, students view art inspired from nature: landscapes, still lifes, and seascapes rendered on canvas and paper, as well as plant and animal motifs in the decorative arts. This extended tour includes a guided walk on the pastoral landscape at Hill-Stead, where students reflect upon nature as an inspiration for art, and on the human influence on nature as seen in the stone walls, scenic pond, Sunken Garden, and walking trails. School groups may also engage in independent exploration using the Hill-Stead Trail Guide, or by borrowing our specially designed backpacks filled with supplies for hands-on activities.
