At Home with Art sparks the imagination of creative kids!
Geared for children ages 7 – 11
At home with Art uses Hill-Stead Museum as an expanded art studio. Each day’s activities begin with a visit to the historic rooms to gather inspiration and learn artistic techniques from the exceptional architecture and the extraordinary collection of paintings, pastels, sculpture, prints and ceramics. Afterward, children experiment with hands-on creativity while applying what they have learned to their own works of art with the help of experienced educators.
Week 1: Theodate’s World of Design
Hill-Stead’s founder, Theodate Pope Riddle, was the architect who designed the Colonial Revival home on the hill where her family lived. She designed the building and the rooms to house the amazing collections of fine and decorative arts that her family treasured. Following Theodate’s lead, participants will explore all kinds of design, including home design and architecture, fashion, landscape architecture, graphic design, and textiles. By the end of the week, they will create plans for their own dream home.
